  • Videos of all the classes are uploaded.

Quranic-Arabic Intensive – What is this course about?

  • The primary aim of the course it to enable students who have no Arabic background to understand the Qur’an directly in the Arabic language.
  • In order to achieve this, the course will equip the student with a foundation in Arabic grammar and morphology which will be used to undertake a word-by-word study of the Qur’an, its major concepts as well as its grammatical analysis.
  • A strong emphasis is placed on the holistic development of the student including addressing spiritual, academic and social needs of the individual and community.
  • The course is based on a tried and tested methodology which has seen more than 2000 students participate (full-time and part-time) with the ability to understand large portions of the Qur’an.  These students have been from diverse backgrounds and ages – ranging from high school children to grandparents.

* This is not a Qur’an recitation class.

Is this course for me?

Do you have:

  • The desire to understand the Qur’an directly in the Arabic, but have no Arabic background?
  • The basic ability to read the Qur’an even with difficulty?
  • The commitment to attend lessons on Sundays from 8:30am to 11:45am?
  • The perseverance to dedicate 2 hours of revision time per week at home?
  • Would like a learning environment that is comfortable, fun and uplifting? (Students are never singled out to answer questions)
  • Do you have access to WhatsApp, email and reliable Internet?

If you answered “yes” to the questions above, then this course is for you! This is your opportunity to join hundreds of students from teens to grandparents who have undertaken this journey. Our course is open to males and females!

Please Note: No Arabic background is required, just a basic ability to read the Qur’an, even slowly with difficulty.

Its been so long since I studied anything – will I cope? Am I too old?

Alhamdullilah, we currently have students ranging from early teens to those in their 80’s who have joined this course! The course caters for those who have not studied for many years and we understand that you may be nervous.

Students are never singled out in class. Class assessments are minimal and those who prefer not to write are welcome to do so.

Lessons are fun and our objective is to make the journey of Arabic an enjoyable one for everyone!

If you would like to have a practical idea about the course before registering, you are welcome to sit in during the current first year class on Sunday anytime between 8:30am and 11:45am. Please contact us to confirm if you would like to visit the class.

What is the difference between the courses offered?

At Mizan Institute we offer two primary courses:

This course is the first 9 weeks of the full-year course and covers the Quranic-Arabic Introductory modules including: Types and components of Arabic words, Past and Present verbs and Root Letters, Arabic reader and Quran introduction.
  3. Course 3: Dawrah Course (Qur’an-in-Depth and Islamic Sciences) (A continuous advanced study of the Qur’an and a comprehensive four-year that covers Fiqh, Aqeedah, Tazkiyah, Usul al-Fiqh, Maqasid, Ulum al-Quran, Usul al-Tafsir, Balaqah, Hadith Sciences, Hadith Study, Seerah and Shama’il. This course is ideal for those who have previously studied Arabic and Quran but also open to those who haven’t)

What are the prerequisites for the course?

No prior knowledge of Arabic is required. The course is aimed at complete beginners. However, students are required to have a basic ability to read the Qur’an even with some difficulty although students will never be asked to read in class.

Students also need to have the commitment to revise the work covered every week as well as complete the homework exercises. This will require about 2 hours of revision every week.

What support is offered to students who miss class or struggle to keep up with the class?

Presentation of Classes
  • The course will be presented on MSPowerPoint. Each lesson will be reinforced with numerous examples and exercises to ensure the student gains mastery of the concepts before moving on to the next one. This will also include homework tutorials.
  • Lessons are interactive, fun and spiritually uplifting with both group and individual learning.
  • Students are never singled out for questions and assessments are optional. The learning environment is comfortable and relaxed.

What does 'Mizan' mean?

Mizan (pronounced mee zaan) means balance, equity and justice. Mizan is the balance within the creation of the cosmos, the balance within our existence and it represents the scales that determine our eternal destiny.

We believe that the principle of the balanced way is essential in a world that is increasingly out of balance. Just as this harmonious balance is evident in the natural world, this mizan needs to be cultivated within each one of us.

The Mizan Mission

Our aim is to educate, inspire and show the absolute relevance of the Islamic message by extending the traditional text into the contemporary context. We believe that Islam presents a panoramic vision and we aspire to develop our students holistically in keeping with this vision.
Mizan offers a number of activities outside of the classroom including spiritual retreats, evenings of remembrance and prayer and an annual i’tikaaf programme.
